Even though Nick and I went to school together (at William & Mary in Virginia- , Go, Tribe!), we didn't really get acquainted until we took a trip to the College Music Journal Music Marathon in New York City with fellow WCWM college radio djs.
We each showed up alone to the same concert (764 Hero, Built to Spill and Modest Mouse), in hopes of meeting up with the whole WCWM gang. Nick saw me standing up closer to the stage (As you know, I am very tall and hard to miss) and called out my name. Then he struggled to work his way through the crowd to stand by me.
Despite it being freezing outside, it was sweaty and cramped in the club. Our backs and feet were tired from walking all around Manhattan and watching bands. Nick knelt down to rest in the midst of all these people. I gave in to the temptation, even though I was scared of touching the club floor. And then, down there on the floor, closed in by a wall of denim legs, we truly noticed each other.
After graduating (Sarah in '99 and Nick in '01), we moved from Williamsburg to the Fan in Richmond for a few years. Then as our new city began to shrink, we visited other cities on a search for The One. We both fell in love with Chicago and moved here on the very last day of 2003.
