Accomodations

Unfortunately, due to a massive medical conference coming to Chicago the weekend of the wedding, we were unable to go the route of a traditional hotel block. Instead, I have compiled a list of Bed & Breakfasts and furnished apartments in our neighborhood, Wicker Park, and the neighboring Bucktown. It would be great to have our out of town guests all within walking distance of one another. The wedding venue is easily accesible from this area via a short taxi ride or public transportation.

The Two Urns: These same owners have a Bed and Breakfast and two separate furnished apartments, all in the same area.

The Wicker Park Inn

The Ruby Room

Ray's Bucktown B & B

The Bucktown Respite: A 2-Bedroom furnished apartment

Sam's Place: Also in Bucktown (scroll down)

Please pay careful attention to minimum night stay requirements, maximum occupancies, and other fine print.

If you wish to stay in a regular hotel, you might be able to find an individual room somewhere downtown. You might have the best luck if you wait until May or so to book one of those, as the unreserved rooms for the conferences gradually open up.

Failing that, you could also try out by your airport. Both O'Hare and Midway are accesible to downtown via the train.

Also, you can try Craigslist for Bed & Breakfasts and furnished rooms in other neighborhoods. Here are a few we found: The China Doll units in hopping Lincoln Park or Harvey House or the more affordable The Longwell Hall B&B, both in historical Oak Park.

If you have any questions, just shoot us an email! We would love to help any way we can.

The Proposal

April 22nd, 2006
Despite my inability to keep house plants alive (and especially out of the kitties' mouths), I have a deep appreciation for gardens. I had been begging Nick to go with me to the Chicago Botanic Garden for quite a while. We finally got around to it one Saturday. I was suspicious that a proposal might be in order, because it was such a perfect location and we had been talking about it. So, I slyly asked if I should dress up. He said, No, just wear what you usually wear, which I took to mean, No, no proposal today. I am glad I was wrong.

How We Met

Even though Nick and I went to school together (at William & Mary in Virginia- , Go, Tribe!), we didn't really get acquainted until we took a trip to the College Music Journal Music Marathon in New York City with fellow WCWM college radio djs.

We each showed up alone to the same concert (764 Hero, Built to Spill and Modest Mouse), in hopes of meeting up with the whole WCWM gang. Nick saw me standing up closer to the stage (As you know, I am very tall and hard to miss) and called out my name. Then he struggled to work his way through the crowd to stand by me.

Despite it being freezing outside, it was sweaty and cramped in the club. Our backs and feet were tired from walking all around Manhattan and watching bands. Nick knelt down to rest in the midst of all these people. I gave in to the temptation, even though I was scared of touching the club floor. And then, down there on the floor, closed in by a wall of denim legs, we truly noticed each other.

After graduating (Sarah in '99 and Nick in '01), we moved from Williamsburg to the Fan in Richmond for a few years. Then as our new city began to shrink, we visited other cities on a search for The One. We both fell in love with Chicago and moved here on the very last day of 2003.

Welcome!

We have decided on a small ceremony here in Chicago, our new home. You have all shared and contributed to our lives in the past, and we ask that you share in our future by witnessing our marriage. Come celebrate with us!
